Out of curiosity, where does Cadillac come into the picture?

Whoops, thanks for spotting!

30 odd years of driving: I'd never heard the expression 'fastback'

Really? It's neither something new nor something polestar invented. The Rover SD1 was a fastback. The Audi A5 and A7 are fastbacks.

That is such a visually weird vehicle: I cannot tell from those pictures whether its a sedan or an SUV-like thing. And hitting the website for it: I still can't tell what it is.

And: the best part: there's not a single picture on the canadian polestar website that actually shows the thing with the rear open: so is it a trunk, or does the rear window swing upwards.

Edit:
Found it:
https://www.polestar.com/en-ca/polestar-2/utility/#rear-storage

(Canadian website is slow: I guess Polestar's media launch must have pulled in a few extra eyeballs this morning)

Ok: i like how much space there is back there...
Not that I'm all for marketing hype but the term fastback has been around forever, the classic 1967-1969 Mustang that everyone thinks of when you say mussel car was a fastback (3 bodies were available a coupe, a convertible and the fastback).

Fastback is a relatively old term. There was a line of classic Mustangs called fastbacks. It's basically a cool term for a "hatchback muscle car".

Fastback is a term at least 80 years old in the car industry.

From Wikkipedia:

A fastback is an automotive styling feature, defined by the rear of the car having a single slope from the roof to the tail.

Yeah:

Like I said, I'd never seen it. But the wikipedia article was interesting. I'd read it before your cross post, but thank you.

Thanks Dr Gitlin: i've spent most of my life driving station wagons or minivans :( (Hauling my own treasures; or hauling the family treasures) so the Audi A5 or A7 were never on my radar :(

This would have been on my radar if there was somewhere closer than a multi-hour trip to go check one out.

(Yeah, I know that Canada isn't a priority market when Polestar can likely sell more than they can manufacture in the US )

The tablet slapped onto the center of the dashboard is still an eyesore.

Lazy interior design is all the rage now. Make it look like an entry level Ikea bedroom set, slap on a display and put all the controls there, job done.

Unfortunately the traditional luxury brands are taking the wrong lessons and moving this way too. I thought Audi understood the importance of physical controls and nicely integrated displays based on my Q4 e-tron but the Q6 interior reveal is revolting and sad.

Never mind. Only three retailers in all of Canada? Seriously?
Fastback has been a thing for decades...

Is just usually a sedan or coupe with a sloping back to the rear without much of a dedicated flat trunk like sedans. Some other names can be grand coupes (bmw),

Ex: audi A7, mustangs, Teslas, mercedes cls, and a whole host of other cars through out the years.

The aftermarket interior design look is apparently in these days.

Cheaper stuff for a higher price. What's not to love?

I like these enough I guess. Really reminds me of the Subaru Outback sedan. Tall chunky thing. I'd rather see this in a 5 door; not full CUV but extend the top back.

The original Polestar 2 AWD wasn't exactly an efficiency wonder, but this upgrade puts it on par with the Model 3 Highland as far as WLTP goes. Impressive. I'm curious to see real world consumption figures.

I really wish our route had been a loop but we drove the rwd one up to Estes Park then took an awd one back to Denver.

A good UI is important. Buttons don't necessarily mean a good UI, and a touchscreen doesn't necessarily mean a bad UI.

Polestar has a few locations in Canada and a bunch of Canadian journalists were on the same wave as me last week in Denver so I think they do care about you. I remember being told that the 90% of Canadian polestar 2s are the twin-motor version.
Thank you: currently their website only shows 3 locations across all of Canada: Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal: maybe they are aiming to expand the network.

The vehicle, from roaming the website, certainly hits all my 'middle-aged engineer with special needs child' checkboxes :)

2022 Polestar 2 owner here. It's definitely a midsize sedan, but it's built on the Volvo C40 platform and that means it rides quite high. It reminds me of the stance of AMC Eagles from the 1980s.

Well that's odd because even the old 1966 Mustang fastback was referred to as a fastback.

And: the best part: there's not a single picture on the canadian polestar website that actually shows the thing with the rear open: so is it a trunk, or does the rear window swing upwards.
It's a hatchback. The whole rear glass opens.

I might be wrong but I think these things were more popular in Europe than in the North Americas. Super happy these form factors are coming back as EVs as I'm tired of oversized, overpowered and overstylized SUVs (BMW's Neue Klasse, the good looking one, is kind of a half fastback imo). Here in Germany Polestars are really gaining momentum, can see quite a lot of them around and I really love the looks.
