Harbhajan, a big figure in Indian cricket, took a strong stance against the criticism and slammed Shama for her comments.
“Well, there will be people who’ll keep on talking about his fitness, captaincy skills. But I just asked a very simple question to that lady who made this remark about Rohit Sharma’s fitness: whether she’s a part of BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) or any other organisation where she understands the rule and also the fitness," Harbhajan said while speaking to India Today.
“So, putting a finger towards anyone is very easy, but at the same time, the thumb is facing towards you, so just check yourself too," Harbhajan added.
India have reached the finals of the Champions Trophy and play New Zealand in the summit showdown in Dubai on Sunday, March 9.
Shama caused a massive hue and cry on social media with a controversial post directed at Rohit.
Acknowledging that her comments were out of line, Congress asked Shama to delete the post from her Twitter account.
In her now-deleted post, Shama said that Rohit is “fat for a sportsman". “Need to lose weight! And, of course, the most unimpressive Captain India has ever had!"
Distancing itself, Congress said that Shama’s remarks about Rohit don’t reflect the party’s position and ordered her to exercise greater caution in future.
Shama said that these were her remarks and that a problem had been made out of it. She added that she is proud of Rohit but was speaking about his fitness.
Responding to a post praising Rohit, Shama had asked what was so world-class about the former when compared to his predecessors like Sourav Ganguly, batting legend Sachin Tendulkar, former India head coach Rahul Dravid, former India captain MS Dhoni, ace India batter Virat Kohli, Kapil Dev, Ravi Shastri and the rest.
