A$AP Rocky Says His Outfits Were ‘More Absurd’ Prior to Having Kids and Defines His ‘Dad Style’ Now (Exclusive)

A$AP Rocky’s closet underwent an overhaul when the rapper became a parent. 

“If I could define my dad style, I would say it's way more focused,” the dad of two, 36, told PEOPLE exclusively at the Dec. 4 Footwear News Achievement Awards, where he and Puma received the Collaboration of the Year award. 

The "Sundress" artist, who shares sons RZA, 2, and Riot, 1, with partner Rihanna, 36, he says that since he welcomed his children, his fashion focus has been towards classic ensembles.

“Prior to that, it was more absurd outfits and just mixing and matching everything just for the sake of it. Now it's a bit more quiet luxury,” he explains of his style evolution. 

When it comes to his children's budding style, he says that's all the the work of their mother.

“That’s their mother by herself,” Rocky said of Rihanna when asked who typically dresses them. “I don’t have any contribution to when my sons get dressed.”

“Sometimes she dresses them like me with kilts and all of that," he continued, "but that's all their moms, man. She got good style and taste.”

In an October 2024 interview with W Magazine, A$AP Rocky shared how paternity has also impacted the non-sartorial areas of his life.

"That s--- changed my swag,” he told the outlet, admitting, “I’m such a dad, it’s f---ing hilarious."

"I haven’t been in the gym in weeks. I come home, my kids are already in bed, asleep. I leave, they [sic] still asleep. But the sacrifices we make to put out something substantial…” he said of his routine.

A$AP Rocky isn’t the only one in his household who’s had to adjust their fashion sense to parent life, though.

At the Savage X Fenty Lavish Lace Collection Preview in Los Angeles on Oct. 10, Rihanna told PEOPLE that when she’s in mom mode, function trumps everything else. 

"Anything that's cozy, anything that's stretchy, anything that's easy to bend down and pick my kids up in. Those are the things I look for,” she said of her ideal uniform. “Things that don't scratch me, don't scratch them. We've got a lot of work to do in a day of a life of a mom.”
